Puppy Prep List
Where do you begin? Welcoming a new puppy or even adopting a new doggo can be exciting and stressful all at the same time. No one threw you a Puppy Shower. Do you have everything ready for that first night? First week? First month? Here’s a list to help get you on the right path to welcome your new buddy home.
Essentials
- Flat collar
- Harness- preferably with a front and back clip
- Crate of a proper size for your doggo at the time they come home. Or a crate with a divider to change the size over time. Without a divider you might have to upgrade over time as they grow
- 6-foot leash (consider the weight of the leash vs the weight of your pup or expected weight of your doggo)
- Dog tags with their name, your name and your phone number
- Toys – for teething, for tug, for play and some for bonding
- Brush/comb proper for your dog’s fur
- Gentle shampoo for dogs/puppies
- Food and water bowls
- Quality dog food – speak to your vet and your breeder for suggestions and instructions
- Dog bed- starting mat training right away is a life saver
- Training treats
- Stain/odour remover for accidents – antimicrobial/enzyme killer
- Poop bags
- Enrichment feeders/Toys like: Kong or Toppl- a fantastic way to feed your dogs meals, and treats as well as add enrichment
- A good caring vet!

- Bell or buzzer for house training
- Nail clippers and/or nail Dremel
- Toothbrush and paste
- Ear cleanser
- Treat bag
- Clicker
- Puzzle feeder
- Long line- great for teaching recall
- Heartbeat puppy toy
